Stephanie, a strong woman, is fighting cancer and is comforted by her rescued dog Monroe every day. She writes, “I’m fighting the good fight and have my fur baby on my side!!”
Stephanie shared with us how Monroe is helping her through her treatments and is her “saving grace”:
“My name is Stephanie and I was a healthy 28 year old until I started having night sweats, and discovered a lemon-sized lump under my right armpit in April. After surgery for a biopsy and a couple months of testing I was diagnosed with Stage III Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, which is a rare aggressive form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.”
“Thankfully, my prognosis is good, I’m in the great hands of Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and I’m halfway through Chemotherapy.”
“A year and a half ago I rescued my girl Monroe (like Marilyn and we call her Roe for short.) I was told the little 3-6 month old Lab/Shepherd mix was from TN and was very shy. Although still shy, she loves to play and has been my saving grace since from the day she came home and even more since I began treatment.”
“Everyday I’m not feeling well she doesn’t leave my side and the days I have chemo she refuses to be anywhere but on top of me! She’s my little angel”
UPDATE:
Stephanie added a new member to her family this week. Meet JoJo.
“When I was diagnosed with cancer I made Mike promise that if I beat it, he’d get me an I beat cancer “puppy.” After reading About 200 dog profiles I fell in love with a big 6 year old named JoJo. Originally from Louisiana, his owner passed away in June of this year. He was passed around before he was brought to paws4rescue.org and brought to Connecticut. I found out today when we met him that his owner passed after losing his battle to bone cancer. Needless to say, JoJo and Monroe are becoming great friends and JoJo has found his forever home”
