Can you imagine being able one day to start a charity without even trying? That’s what happened to Phil Heckels, a family man who has gone viral on social media for selling pet portraits and using the money raised for charity.
So far the story is quite moving, the detail is that Phil is not really a cartoonist. It all started when one day he helped his son to make a thank you card, and when he could not get the little one to draw something coherent, he decided to make a portrait of his pet Narla himself.
Later the drawing was so funny, that he did not miss the opportunity to publish it on his Facebook under the caption “Pet portraits for sale £ 200 excluding VAT”. However, what started out as a joke turned into a charity work, as Phil started getting friend requests from people who really wanted to acquire the portrait.
He immediately had the wonderful idea of creating a pseudonym and creating a Facebook page called Pet Portraits By Hercules, where he publishes his unique creations and all the money collected is donated to the Turning Tides Homelessness organization that is responsible for helping people without home.
Phil is currently known on social media as Hercules Van Wolfwinkle and has raised nearly $ 40,000 from his famous portraits.
