While all dogs are good dogs, there’s one particular pooch who recently took his best behavior to the next level.

An otherwise typically quiet night at Odessa Police Department took a rather interesting turn when an unexpected visitor strolled right through the front doors.

His name, Chico — a very smart, friendly dog seemingly trying to report himself missing to the Texan Police department.

It’s possible he wasn’t lost at all but was inquiring about any open K9 positions on the force. The handsome stranger didn’t have a lot to say, but he was very happy to entertain the officers on duty with a few games of fetch in the station lobby while they tried to crack the case.

Sergeant Rusty Martin was among the officers who were lucky enough to meet Chico, who reports that the carefree pup didn’t seem too fazed by the fact he was missing.

“We were all excited to have him in the building, “We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”

After the initial excitement had passed, the officers tried to find out where Chico had come from. He was wearing a collar at the time, but unfortunately, the ID tag had fallen off, so animal control was dispatched to come and check him for a microchip.

Before they arrived, though, things took a turn. Chico wasn’t hanging around—he decided he’d had enough fun for one night and decided to return home on his own.

“He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave,” “He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”, the officers said in a Facebook post.

Thankfully, the following day, Chico was safely reunited with his human dad, but not without making a bunch of new friends in the police force first. Sergeant Rusty Martin said Chico would be welcome back anytime.
