Our dads are the masters of telling the family that they don’t want a dog – before giving in, accepting that the dog is coming whether he likes it or not, and then ending up falling in love with the dog and creating a bond that compares to no other.

We don’t know what it is about dads, but despite them not even wanting the pet in the first place, the pet will always favor him out of all the other family members. Maybe they can sense that they need to win the dad’s approval, so they really give it their all and end up getting on brilliantly.

Whatever the reason for a dad and dog’s special connection, there is one fact to take away from this: a dad who never wanted the dog will end up loving them just as much (if not more) than anyone else in the family.

And that’s exactly what happened in this next story, where one dad who claimed he didn’t want to adopt the dog into the family loves him so much that he even tucks him in for nap time!

Rachael Rodrigues had always wanted a dog, but despite her parents being animal-lovers, they believed dogs to be too high maintenance for their lifestyle. Rachel had just about given up hope when she received the best surprise: a graduation present in the form of a little labrador puppy named Oliver.

“Both my parents were very anti-dog, as we’ve always had cats and they were hesitant with the additional work (training, walking, grooming, etc.) that comes with a dog.”

Rachel instantly fell for Oliver, but another surprise was yet to come.
Despite her dad originally protesting the idea of getting a dog, it soon became clear that he loved the little pup more than anything in the world. He treated Oliver like a baby, looking after him when he was sick, giving him cuddles, and even sleeping on the floor next to him.

“Dad was smitten from the start,” Rachel said. “He’d often walk around the house just carrying Oliver around. In the first week that we got him, we thought Oliver had a stomachache and wouldn’t sleep through the night, so Dad slept on the floor with him under a blanket and rubbed his stomach the whole night.”

But that isn’t all. Whenever Oliver is napping, Rachel’s dad makes sure that his little baby is nice and cozy – and covers him up with a blanket!
Oliver loves to be tucked in, and we bet he always naps better when he’s got a nice soft blanket on top of him.

Describing one of the first times the cute incident happened, Rachelp recalled, “Oliver was asleep on Dad’s pillow so Dad thought he’d cover him up too.”
