A Kentucky town has elected a new mayor who may not be the most experienced politician around.

Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, has never had a human mayor.

Since 1988, the Boone County town has elected dogs as its mayor. The election is a fundraiser for the 3.5-acre town maintained by the Rabbit Hash Historical Society. Anyone around the country can vote to decide who will be Rabbit Hash’s next mayor.

The year 2020 saw an underdog win from 6-month-old French bulldog Wilbur Beast. Wilbur will take the leash from incumbent Brynneth Pawltro, a pit bull who won the title in 2016.

Wilbur’s owner, Amy Noland, lives just outside of Rabbit Hash.

In order to qualify for a run, the candidate’s human parent has to live within an hour walking distance of the town.

With Amy’s help, Wilbur ran on a platform of mental health and breast cancer awareness. Amy’s 65-year-old mother is among the fighters who have beat the illness.

Wilbur’s win was announced on social media by town ambassador Lady Stone, a beautiful border collie.

“The results are in from the most important election that happened this year!! Mayor Wilbur of Rabbit Hash KY is the winner of  the Rabbit Hash mayoral election 2020!!!!” Lady shared.

“We look forward to working with Wilbur and Amy Noland!! congrats you guys!! huge shoutout to the other candidates who helped this year. Your work will help preserve this historic town for years to come.?❤️.”
